Challenge

Curiosity is the driving force behind discovery, learning, and personal growth. It motivates us to explore, ask questions, and seek deeper understanding. This month, we challenge you to tap into that curiosity and create a project that inspires others to learn something new. Your goal is to build something that sparks curiosity and promotes a love of learning.

And here’s some exciting news to help you grow your curiosity: GitHub Education is joining the adventure! With access to tools like the Student Developer Pack and GitHub Copilot, you can take your ideas and ship real projects, while using industry-standard tools along the way.

In collaboration with GitHub

We're thrilled to be collaborating with GitHub to be bringing this quest to life with Copilot.

GitHub Copilot is a generative AI tool that functions as a coding assistant to help you write code faster and so much more. What can GitHub Copilot actually do? The short answer is a lot. The longer answer covers a bunch of different use cases, workflows, coding languages, and much more.

Gain an introduction to Copilot in just 20 minutes here or check out this blog to get started.

Challenge Overview & Rules

Design and build a project that motivates or supports others in learning something new.

All projects must utilize GitHub Copilot as a key tool in development. Whether you're using it to brainstorm code, generate solutions, or debug your project, we want to see how Copilot helped bring your vision to life.

Minimum Requirements

Your project must be submitted as a public GitHub repository and include a detailed README that:

  • Describes what your project does and its intended impact or use case.
  • Explains how you used GitHub Copilot throughout development.
  • Highlights any challenges you faced and how you solved them.
  • Provides clear setup and usage instructions so others can explore your work.

Need help writing a great README? Check out this guide.

Go the Extra Mile (Optional, but encouraged!)

  • Include a short video demo in your README to showcase your project in action.
  • Explore and integrate other tools from the GitHub Student Developer Pack to expand the functionality of your project.
  • Consider deploying your project using GitHub Pages!

Need a Starting Point?

Here’s how you can grow your curiosity with GitHub this month:

  • Explore GitHub Copilot to get AI-powered coding assistance and bring your ideas to life faster.
  • Request access to the Student Developer Pack to access free tools and resources that support coding, design, and collaboration.
  • Showcase your work on GitHub to connect with a global community of creators shaping the future of technology.

What Can You Build?

Your submission could take many forms! Here are some examples to get your wheels turning:

  • A gamified app that teaches coding through playful challenges
  • An interactive dashboard highlighting educational disparities worldwide
  • A tool that personalizes lessons for learners with disabilities, like a voice-guided study assistant
  • A simple app that builds flashcards to learn vocabulary in a new language.

This is an open-ended challenge, so feel free to use your unique creative and technical skills to craft a project that aligns with your interests and strengths—there’s no one right way to tackle this!
