EP Notes:

  • This team is looking for someone with a couple of years of corporate or STEM experience who completed a Data Science bootcamp. It is important that applicants have professional corporate experience (pre-Flatiron) if they are more entry-level in their data skill set.
  • This role is not posted publicly on Spotify's careers page.
  • It's 100% remote with the option to go into any Spotify office locations. Most of the team is based on NYC or on the East Coast; applicants based in Pacific Time Zone must be comfortable with early morning meetings in that time zone.
  • Technical skills expected: Needs to have a quantitative mindset; Looker and Tableau skills; can adapt existing code in SQL, strong SQL understanding; if an applicant has done a ton of pivot charts in Excel, that helps with Looker Studio dashboard skills needed.
  • Additional skills expected: Professional experience, business experience, experience working in cross-functional team settings
  • Interview steps (4 interviews total):
  • 1 - Initial screen by Hiring Manager (would include small tech questions to gauge analytical thinking, can the candidate design a methodology to answer a question)
  • 2 - Another in-depth tech interview with Hiring Manager
  • 3 - Meet with a user researcher who owns sentiment surveys for Spotify artists, who this role would be working with a lot
  • 4 - Meet with another business stakeholder on the team, role TBD

We are looking for a data analyst with strong organizational & communication skills to join the Spotify for Artists Marketing & Policy team - a cross-functional group dedicated to helping artists and their teams grow their careers on Spotify. Spotify for Artists is a leading music industry brand with a suite of tools and resources for artists, labels, managers, songwriters, and publishers. There are over 1 million artists using Spotify for Artists today, and they range from the biggest artists in the world today to the up-and-coming creators of tomorrow. This full-time contract role will report to the lead Data Scientist of Spotify for Artists Marketing.


You will enable a data-driven culture on the team by distributing insights to 30+ marketing stakeholders via dashboards, automated measurement solutions, survey execution, & monthly reporting insights.


Projects will include analysis of marketing attribution results, creation of artist sentiment survey dashboards, monthly management reporting, and more. Through this work, you’ll help ensure that Spotify effectively meets the needs of the music industry with our marketing efforts.

What you’ll do:

  • Analyze large sets of data to extract actionable insights around marketing channel performance & product adoption that will drive decisions for our Spotify for Artists marketing strategy.
  • Partner with User Research to execute monthly creator & artist sentiment surveys, create automated dashboards of survey results & derive insights from survey responses. 
  • Monitor & maintain health of existing automated marketing measurement solutions. (Marketing attribution, landing page traffic, international scorecards, etc.)
  • Develop & maintain dashboards & reporting data layers for a variety of marketing teams. Measure & report monthly KPIs.
  • Craft high impact presentations and communicate data-driven insights through clear visualizations and data storytelling.
  • Collaborate with Growth Marketing to define business logic for campaign targeting. Create audience targeting lists with custom SQL when needed.
  • Partner with marketers as a day to day consultant on how to understand and utilize data in their role.


Who you are:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience working with data to derive business insights
  • 1+ year experience with Intermediate SQL
  • You have a degree or certification in a quantitative field, such as Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics
  • Experience building data visualizations and dashboards in Looker (preferred) , Tableau or a similar BI solution
  • Strong organization and project management skills
  • Effective communicator with non-technical stakeholders
  • Familiarity with analytics engineering principals & tooling (GitHub & workflow scheduling)
  • Experience working with quantitative survey data is a plus.
  • Experience creating and scheduling datasets is a plus.
  • You are curious and not afraid of exploring new domains; you enjoy partnering with others to define and develop new opportunities
  • You are a natural communicator; you focus just as much on how you deliver your findings, as you do on the technical craft of uncovering new insights.
