Fantastic Pixel Castle

UX Designer

November 27, 2024
Full-Time

Who We Are:

Founded by Greg Street who has led AAA teams for over 20 years, our new studio Fantastic Pixel Castle (FPC) is building an original fantasy IP from scratch. Players will be regularly engaged in our development process from early stages as part of our open and transparent studio culture, and we aim to craft an IP that will be worthy of their passion and dedication for decades to come.

We are committed to being a fully remote and global studio, so that we can hire world-class people and have them live their best lives. We think top-heavy bureaucracy stifles creativity, so we aim to stay small as we focus on delivering a game and a world that you will love. We are fully-funded, and the team will share in all of our studio's successes.

Position Overview:

We’re looking for a UX Designer to join our growing MMORPG team. This role is perfect for a generalist who is passionate about both UX and MMORPGs. As a member of our team, you’ll help create, prototype, and implement designs in Unreal Engine.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with UX designers, visual designers, game designers, artists, and programmers to define, communicate, and implement our vision for the game
  • Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and user flows using Figma and other tools
  • Work within Unreal Engine to prototype, implement, iterate on, and test UX designs
  • Ensure designs meet quality, performance, and usability standards for both PC and console
  • Collect, prioritize, and integrate player feedback through regular team and external playtests
  • Help create and maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of UX processes and standards
  • Be the expert in your areas of ownership and make decisive calls while addressing risks and concerns

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in software or video game development
  • Proven experience as a User Experience Designer or similar role
  • Proficient in design tools such as Figma, Photoshop, or equivalent tools
  • Passion for video games and understanding of current industry trends
  • Proven experience designing complex experiences from concept through implementation
  • Deep understanding of UX design skills such as information hierarchy, information architecture, interaction design, accessibility design, and technical writing
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement high-quality prototypes that showcase innovative and engaging user experiences
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to translate abstract design concepts into specific designs and reason about design tradeoffs
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively work in a multidisciplinary team and make and explain design decisions in a way that builds the team’s confidence in our UX approach

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the MMO field (including non-traditional modern MMOs)
  • Proficiency prototyping or implementing UI visuals and behaviors in Unreal Engine using Blueprint or C++
  • Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese
  • Familiarity with accessibility design and standards
  • Familiarity with designing for gamepad and/or consoles
